LAS VEGAS - A raging fire near the Las Vegas Strip casino district forced firefighters to battle the blaze in triple-digit temperatures on Tuesday.

No injuries were reported, but a firefighter was taken to a hospital for heat exhaustion, authorities said.

The fire was burning about two blocks from the Stratosphere tower and the casino-lined tourist corridor that includes the Bellagio, Caesars Palace and Paris Las Vegas hotels.

Flames shot high into the sky and black smoke drifted across the city's brightest lights as more than 70 firefighters battled the stubborn blaze in temperatures that reached 106 degrees Fahrenheit (41 degrees Celsius), according to Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan.

"The winds are blowing right in our face," Buchanan said. "It's hard to fight a fire when you have those conditions." it took more than three hours to bring the blaze under control.
